UPPER DISC ANTI-SLAM DEVICE
INTRODUCTION
The IRUA Upper Disc Anti-Slam Device is installed in air valves.
This device achieves a brake effect, decreasing the velocity of the fluid which approaches the valve, minimizing the effects of a potential water hammer. This is achieved when the upper disc restricts the outflow of air once a determinate pressure differential is reached. This provokes a slow-down of the fluid column which incomes the valve.
Any installation of air valves with Anti-Slam services is a quite delicate Process, because these devices should be only installed in the points where they are really necessary (deep well services, water column separation points…). In fact, an overuse can cause long filling time, low pump performance…
Unlike other systems in the market, IRUA’s anti-slam device is not integrated in the inner part of the valve. This means that due to this exterior Access it can be easily modified or even cancelled when for example, the line sizing does not match 100% with the real behavior of the installation once it is in service. It is not necessary to neither open the valve nor interrupt its performance in case of need any adjustment.
Coming up next, we show the working sequence of the valve in different stages:
